Interesting article from the Guardian on the rise in popularity of cargo bikes. At the time of writing (01/02/11), I reckon we’ve got somewhere in the region of 20+ cargo bikes regularly on the streets of Brighton. These include a Christiana trike, 6 or 7 Xtracycles, a Gazelle, a Nihola, a Big Dummy and a couple of Kona Utes. Plus, there are an increasing number of trailers out and about. Only the Ute, the Bakfiets and the Gazelle, plus a variety of trailers are stocked locally in the Brighton bike shops.

Just read this article about Jose Alano who built a solar water heater from recycled plastic bottles and other reclaimed materials. A not-for-profit project, this simple idea has helped many communities to save money and re-use waste materials.

A nice piece here on recycling bikes and the various creative outlets for people with a bit of vision and determination. I particularly liked the horse (above), but whether you’re looking to build a fence, make a clock, a chandalier or a belt for your pants, it’s all here>>

I’ve put together a bit of an introduction to car free living in the UK. I did it originally for the Lewes Road For Clean Air Campaign in Brighton, but thought I may as well upload it for general consumption.
